The Titration of Organic Acids in Urine

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The simple titration method for the determination of organic acids in urine, described by Van Slyke and Palmer (I), has in many circumstances proved satisfactory. A more extended employment of the method to determine organic acids in pathological urines has brought to light limitations and sources of error which need consideration. The organic acids present in urine, both free and as salts, are estimated by titration, using suitable indicators, between the hydrogen ion concentrations represented by pH 8 and pH 2.7 respectively, after removal of the phosphates and carbonates by means of calcium hydroxide. By this procedure approximately 95 per cent of the organic acids may be determined. Weak bases, such as creatinine, creatine, and amino acids are included in the titration. A method of estimating the influence of these substances is described in the original paper.

A Description of Reference Ranges for Organic Acids in Urine Samples from A Pediatric Population in Iran

Background: Organic acids refer to a family of compounds that are intermediates in a variety of metabolic pathways. Many organic acids are present in urine from clinically normal individuals. Elevated levels of urine organic acids cause to the organic acidurias, disorders in which some metabolic pathways in organic acid metabolism are blocked. The present work identified major and minor urinary...

Development and Validation of a GC-FID Method for Diagnosis of Methylmalonic Acidemia

Background: Urinary organic acids are water-soluble intermediates and end products of the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, and a number of other metabolic processes. In the hereditary diseases known as organic acidurias, an enzyme or co-factor defect in a metabolic pathway leads to the accumulation and increased excretion of one or more of these acidic metabolites. Gas chromato...

Non Aqueous Titration for the Determination of Azelaic Acid: Introduction and Method Validation

Alpha-hydroxylic acids are widely used in the treatment and control of skin disorders. Azelaic acid is a naturally occuring Alpha-hydroxy acid that can be formed endogenously from long-chain dicardoxylic acids, metabolism of oleic acid or omega oxidation of mono carboxylic acids. It shows bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities against aerobic and anaerobic micro-organisms present on acne-be...
